Fly For Foundations

Eagle Aviation at Columbia Metropolitan Airport (August 2025)

On Saturday, August 16, 2025, The Mantei Charitable Fund proudly hosted Fly For Foundations at Columbia Metropolitan Airport. The event brought together aviation history, community spirit, and charitable giving in one unforgettable day.

Held at Eagle Aviation, attendees had the rare opportunity to experience rides in vintage WWII aircraft, including the iconic PT-17 Stearman biplane. Families, veterans, and aviation enthusiasts joined together not only to enjoy the thrill of flight, but also to raise critical support for six South Carolina nonprofits: Sole SteppingFoodshare South CarolinaMidlands Orphan ReliefCarolina Wildlife Care CenterHome Works of America, and Final Victory Animal Shelter.

Among the honored guests was 99-year-old WWII veteran Bruce Cook, a former B-17 Flying Fortress turret gunner, who shared reflections on his service and the sacrifices made by his generation. His presence was a moving reminder of the history these aircraft represent and the freedoms they helped secure.

“Events like this are about more than flying,” said Colonel Rick Mantei, founder of the Mantei Charitable Fund. “They’re about preserving history, honoring veterans, and using these planes to give back to the community in meaningful ways.”

The event drew wide community support and inspired younger generations to connect with aviation’s past while investing in a stronger future.

The Mantei Charitable Fund is grateful to everyone who made this event possible and looks forward to hosting the next Fly For Foundations fundraiser in October 2025.
